So I've been thinking of getting back into competitive TF2, at least in a minor way through pickups etc. I was more than happy to use TF2 lobby, but apparently they're having some problems with registering new Steam logins/some higher power isn't interested in me joining up. I dl'd nettalk for IRC use and started lurking around #tf.mercs and #mpuktf2.pickup, as a complete IRC noob and without much help around the interwebs. I've got the whole channel-joining/authorising in Q thing down, but I just don't really seem to get any response from Q or any other bots when I enter the commands I'm suggested. #mpuktf2.pickup says to say "!add" and I've not seen anythin' happen from it, and putting myself up on #tf.mercs seems fruitless. Don't suppose any of you guys have any experience using IRC for pickups and could point me in the right direction, or tell me what I'm missing? It could be good to outline general steps for those of us that don't know what they're doing when it comes to looking for pickups so as to get a bit of experience for bigger games.
Otherwise, does playstuff have a group for casual scrims other than the ETF2L/UGC groups, just grabbing 6/9 players to play a game from time to time?
Looks like MGE servers are my best bet for now, but they're not exactly realistic - might as well be playing on tf_runway. :|
