Nuttmegger presents: In a Nuttshell! - Review of L4D2 EvilEyes addon campaign
Download Size: 38.5mb, reliable provider (requires Steam tool 'L4D2 addon support to work- 25 min download from steam).
Artyness: It's a mixture of 65% swamp fever with 25% parish and 10% blood harvest from L4D1. The detail feels a bit sparse at times, and is about 70% of a valve map, I suspect most of this is to streamline the experience and to only include game-play effecting stuff.
Playstyle: The maps take the best ideas from the official campaigns, there are bits that are clearly defined as 'route we want to take' 'route we want to avoid'. My favourite moment was the 2nd level where a narrow bridge hung over a witch infested pit. These sorts of bits are great for smokers and jockeys. There's also some choke points for spitters and nasty corners for boomers and chargers. The zombie population is HIGH, and at least 60% of the gametime is spent swarmed.
Any Cool stuff: There's a great bridge scene taken directly out of parish which is especially hard when you have 3 F#@! idiot bots on your team. The end scene with the tank is well done, as it's open for the survivors, with high drop points for the infected, but it's water and chuck able ridden so it's great for an opportunistic tank. I'd imagine this finale would be hell on expert campaign mode. The boat ride is also quite fun, and it works as much as an opportunity for the infected as the survivors
Verdict: It's a great mix of the best of L4D set pieces, the gauntlets are especially well done. The variety is great, and I'd imagine great for getting versus quick kills. It's not so much a story, or anything new, so perhaps give it a miss if you play for naritive, but it's been created for a balance of intense and wildly different environments sure to stretch out a good versus match.
