    Help! PC won't boot!

So I'm pretty clueless here. PC has been running fine for two years, but now I can't boot anymore for some reason.

It seems to have started with a failing HDD that was clicking, but after unplugging it my PC only rarely boots.

After some searching and unplugging everything, I found that reseating the RAM makes it boot for one run. Trying to reboot fails again.
Most of the times, at least the lights go on and fans start turning, but my screen stays black.
When I reseat the RAM again, it works again for one run.

No idea what's going on here.
Any of you guys know how I can diagnose what's wrong and if it can be fixed?

Should I turn on my oven already? :p

Unplug everything, take all out and try to boot to bios.
If that works, plug memory back in, boot to bios.
If that works, get a cdrom/usb stick and perform a memcheck.
Slowly add things, one at a time.

Alternately, start with switching PSU to rule out that the PSU is the problem.

    Good luck!

I agree with Mac, it's a sensible path.

Most of the time, the mobo lights up but there's no output to the display. Only when I reseat the RAM I manage to see the BIOS. It's also the only time I can shut down without holding down the power problem.

When no memory is inserted, it shuts down automatically, I guess this is normal?

I don't have a spare PSU around sadly enough, so guess I might have to buy one. It does sound like it could be the problem.
