    Mumble to Discord

    Hi Ladies and Gents,

We're going to stop using Mumble for a while so that we can give Discord a trial.

It's quite similar to mumble, it's not got a few bits and pieces that might be missed, but it is being very actively developed and hopefully Discords own features will make up for that.

You can get the desktop client here: https://discordapp.com/

You can connect to the Playstuff Discord server using this link: https://discord.io/playstuff or this one https://discord.gg/0sHlEQB6WTRtzEjY

Note: Some people seem to be having issues with the web app - there is a desktop version for windows, so you can also use that.

Cool stuff. I like Discord - particularly the persistent text chat room thing.

    Re: Mumble to Discord

Maybe that's a stupid question, but is it possible to connect directly with other people through this, without a dedicated server (Skype like)? Like if I wanted to just voice chat to a friend or play coop with 3 other people and wanted a quick and easy conference?

Do you already find it better than Mumble? Or just curious how it will develop?
Hey, you can type small, nearly invisible text under your post. (or invisible!) That's great! - I know neat trick isn't it ?
Hello, Stranger! Nice to have you in my sig! Feel free to leave comments! Any of them will be welcome!

I don't know if it's answering your question but you can create your own channel and conf without the dedicated software. You just need a web browser.
For example, go to https://discordapp.com/channels/@me . You can invite people through the webpage, as well as create channels on the left side panel.

AFAIK you can't customise the various sounds at the moment, although I think it's a highly requested feature on the feedback page, so it may come in the future.

    Re: Mumble to Discord

It's pretty good. Few features that are missing which have been suggested but not yet implemented - I suppose that's the main downside with a free open source program.

My biggest gripe is that even while deafened I still get audio notifications that people are joining/leaving the AFK channel. I've looked and this is apparently intended.

    Re: Mumble to Discord

I feel that with time discord will have its little annoyances worked out/customisable, but right now it's trying to do everything without having the final polish. For me it's just the fact you can't turn various sounds off - whereas mumble has full control over what notifications you get and the manner in which you get them

    Re: Mumble to Discord

I've so far only used it once and it was fine during that time, but this was such a brief time I don't think it's a fair test of the program.
I haven't used a single voip client that doesn't have it's issues, TS has always been the best for me, but of course, that's not free like Discord.
I'm sure I'll have more to complain about in the future...

You're not talking about user enter channel, etc. noises, are you? Because you can definitely turn them off in the user settings>notification pannel.

    Re: Mumble to Discord

TBH it has a lot of things I don't really want/need comepared to mumble where I just click and channel and off I go.

But I appreciate others want the real time chat and other features

One workaround could be pressing the disconnect button above your username in the lower-left corner.
