    pl_rust

    It's been a loooong time. How have you been?

    This is pl_rust, the map that has caused me more strife than anything else thus far in my level design career. The map is created for TF2Maps.net's Contest #7, Payload: Dynamic element.

    The map takes place in a snowy canyon rift, in the middle of a mining facility. Blu must push the cart to destroy Reds base of operations (aka, I don't have a thing for them to blow up yet. Give me a couple days...).
    Not much more to say. The map is in early beta, and I am rushing to get something that looks like a somewhat polished piece of poo ready for the contest. I will be working on and updating the map post-contest.

    Feedback welcome. The map is still quite under-detailed, and whilst the layout isn't really bad, it could use a little bit more work in some areas (being addressed post-contest). Hope you enjoy what is there so far, I have already submitted into the contest, so you can watch out for it there.

    Well, I sure hope it does. I've been having a couple little issues in beta testing where blu seems to be winning too easily (yet, never had this issue in the late alpha's. So who knows what is up)... if you guys could test it sometime before sunday that would be pretty neato, if not, just testing it in general is lovely.

    That'd be great if you guys could play it. A lot of TF2M people have played it so it's gotten a bit stale (Hi Tf2m people, don't deny. It's true!)

    I know there is some issue gameplay wise around 2 and Final, so I'd love to hear your guys thoughts on it.

    Interesting reading bud. I might just do a write up about clifftop after reading that. It seems like it might well be quite therapeutic.

    So here is the story about what is going on with Rust.

    Rust came in 7th in the Dyn Payload contest (woo?).
    During the voting period, Rexy (the creator/artist behind cp_zinkenite) offered to artpass rust whenever I was done with the layout.
    I'm coming close to a final layout, and TF2Maps.net is getting sick of testing rust (apparently 3-4 tests in 3 days is a lot).

    The main area of concern is CP2, I'm getting descriptions like "okay", "meat grinder" and "mazey". I have idea's on what to do to fix this, but would love more opinions.

    Seriously? I'm ashamed to say I didn't notice until now. I really need to stop working so hard and play more tf2.

    So, when you say Rexy's going to do a detail pass, do you mean a whole new detail pass or rather enhancements to the current styling?

    Well, i don't know. I've asked him and he's just going to basically turn everything no draw and go from there. It will definitely be snowy though. Besides that, no clue.

    I really do need to get this layout done, so if you guys play it, shoot me a PM or at least the demo.

    Here is _a15 of rust. Going to let this sit around a couple days, but I'm pretty sure we're getting close to the end of the layout phase.

    Changes: Widened up the right flank (facing red) on final
    Added a small room outside CP2's entrance
    Adjusted a couple spawn area's.
    Clipped
    Adjusted when the dynamic doors opened up
    Added a spy route up to the top balcony overlooking the final point via red spawn

    Again, if you test this at some point, or play it, or something, shoot me a PM with a demo, or leave some feedback. TF2Maps.net has gotten pretty tired of the map, but I'm not done yet, so I kind of have to work a bit more than I usually would
