Re: CS:GO dev : what are the Pro's saying?

    I just un-installed the beta.
Now I'm very much not a pro, having played none of the previous counterstrike games, but I tried to give the game a fair shake and played about 23 hours.
I found the game bland and boring. Nothing I've seen motivated me to get better at the game or prolong my stay with it.
Maybe I would feel some sense of accomplishment if I'd stayed with the game and got better at it but for that I'd have to spend time on its sterile soulless maps and I'd rather do things that are actually fun instead.
To be honest I can't see the game picking up many new players like me, at best it can future proof Counterstrike for new operating systems.

That's very interesting Monkeys. I think I've got to agree. I haven't uninstalled it yet as I wanted to have some games with friends but I just can't ever see myself playing or enjoying a match on a public server. I think your comment about the maps is an interesting point of view as there is an assumption that everyone already knows all of the maps by heart - de_dust is CS equivalent of 2_fort in so much as every player has played more than they would like. It's not often you meet people who don't know those maps these days but it might happen more with the new generation of players and I'm not sure that there has been much consideration for new players - the whole GO bit seems to just be focussing on existing players and competitive - I was hoping for something a bit more I guess.

While this may be true, they aren't doing a good job at it.
I personally blame Valve for leaving development of a pretty important franchise (in my opinion), to a third party developer with zero experience in first person shooters or multiplayer balancing.
It shows a genuine lack of interest in the competitive community and makes me think this release is more a money spin to have a well heard of FPS they can release on consoles.

There's a desperate lack of new maps that aren't for gungame or the crappy gungame demolition crossover they've built too. I still have hope for CS:GO but before I part with cash for it I want to see some more content. Also I've heard whisperings that there may be a map workshop for it, the prospect of which really does excite me.

Fairly certain it will have an SDK tool out after release. Half the population of CSS play custom maps, probably a lot more these days.

Is it going to be for sale? for money? - didn't realise - I assumed it was going to be a free game to be honest (on pc at least). I certainly wouldn't pay for it - I'd far rather play CS:Source

I don't know, I just assumed it was going to be a paid product simply because I see no monetization options for Valve in the game itself at present. I don't see hats going down well with the CS community.

Yeah, I remember this, there was a discussion that the price wouldn't be much more than what CSS is at the moment, I seem to remember?

Last I heard the game was going to 15.00 Euro/USD, etc.

Also, the fact that the dev's aren't talking is kind of slowing the growth of csgomaps.net :/ ... A little frustrating.

A whole pile of us have the beta now...the fact that we aren't filling a playstuff server every night says all you need to know about CS:GO atm

Yeah I feel we may be being overly harsh on this you know. I've played the beta a fair bit and when I played with friends I found it to be every bit as enjoyable as CS:S. hopefully my workload will start to decline a bit soon and if that's the case I'd be well up for a CS:GO night on our server. :)

Re: CS:GO dev : what are the Pro's saying?

I'm always game for a few rounds of it, played the beta a canny old bit and really like it, yeah there are the odd little thing but nothing major and it is a step up from CSS in terms of visuals without changing the format much.

If anyone wants to play a few rounds etc give me a shout

Re: CS:GO dev : what are the Pro's saying?

The weapons just feel way to inaccurate to me to have fun. They shouldn't have pinpoint accuracy, but standing right behind an opponent and still missing a full clip with an SMG is just ridiculous.

Haven't played in a while, so they might have updated it a bit. I hope their aim isn't all for the competitive scene. Always love a few rounds, but you shouldn't have to be a pro to kill a few people.
