    First mix - be nice!

So I got bored last night and decided to finish off my first mix. It has upbeat, racey bits as well as your laid back, chilled tracks. I'm running the risk of limiting the number of people who'll enjoy it by doing it this way, but tbh dont have enough source material to do one mix of each.

So basically dont get your hopes up, it probably sounds rubbish but I thought I'd post it here anyway

    Tracklist:
    Spoiler: Reveal
    Rockstar - TC
    True Romance - D-Bridge
    Left - Enduser
    Movin' On - Artificial Intelligence
    Deadline - Digital
Sicknote - Ed Rush & Optical
    Nightflight - Shimon & Andy C
Where's My Money - Caspa Remix - TC
    Rock It - Sub Focus
    Triple X - Sub Focus
    Timewarp - Sub Focus
Heartbeat (Chase & Status Remix) - Nneka
    Printer Jam
Tigerlily (B. Rich Remix) - La Roux
    26 Basslines - Benga
    Midnight Request Line - Skream

Is it a bad idea to go from 180 to 140 bpm, did I get away with it?

    Fixed

Also, the song from 6-9 minutes both looks and sounds a bit out of place where it is. I'll change that at some point

EDIT: And OH NOES! the phone line sound from 'wheres my money' has gome completely out!

Quality mix, near the end of it now. I didn't even notice the tempo shift, which is as good as saying it was handled well.
Like the way it devolves into dubsteb too, fave new genre atm.

Just out of interest what did you mix this with? I'd quite like to have a stab at making a mix, I'm guessing Ableton is the tool of choice?

Well mixed! Those shifts in bpm fit in quite nicely. It gives a nice varieaty.
Musically, it is just not my style of music I normally listen too...

The I thought that move down to dubstep was pretty apt for 'time is changing'. I used Mixmeister, its a stepping stone towards your abletons and your logics, nowhere near as powerful, but fun to use.

Re: First mix - be nice!

Do people think its a bit choppy, ie; I'm not giving each song enough time, and mixing too early and too fast? Should I keep the style or in the next mix would you like more time to get into each song? I think the problem is that when you hear a song so many times, you get bored of it quite quick, and make the incorrect assumption that your listener will too (as they won't have heard it 100 times already)

If anyone wants it, I might release an extended version of this mix, giving each track more time before it cuts out.

Re: First mix - be nice!

i wouldn't worry too much about each song length, it depends on the song and where the 'break' points are.

keep at it and develop your own style and dont let the bpm of the track dictate its position in the mix, mixmeister is quite a beast

    spot on.

listen. trust yourself from now in.

you've made a mix - and it's genuinely good. Just keep doing it now - you'll develop a style over time. Choppy is never going to get you any complaints - and is a safe bet until you're more 'comfortable'. It takes balls for a DJ to let a whole tune play through - and the balls will develop trust me *mix tapes are no different to playing out live in that sense.
