Which Race Will You Play First?

The Asura will be my starting Race (I WANT MY GOLEM NAMED MR. BUBBLES). This comes after much debate with myself and the multiple regions of my brain who want to play different races.

Now if I could only decide on a profession...

I am having the same problem, with Profession, that is, Thief sounds pretty awesome, but they all do in some way!
Elementalists sound very useful, but so do Guardians, Engineers sound pretty modern with their gadgety technology, Warriors, well, Warriors! And Rangers have awesome shooty powers... It's so difficult!

Well, there is still the mesmer (we assume). If that turns out looking good, I'll toss that into the mix, but I'm down to Elementalist, Engineer, Guardian or Mesmer...

If mesmer is last class I'll be rolling human mesmer.

For me all the races and classes have certain connotations and line up thematically:

Sylvari: Ranger
Norn: Guardian
Charr: Warrior
Asura: Engineer
Human: Thief

Then I'm left with
Nercomancer: Any race except Norn and Sylvari
Elementalist: Any race except Asura
Might-be-Mesmer: Human

All my personal thought ofc.

Yea, I definitely don't have the same perspective
Although I definitely agree that some races fit better with certain professions thematically I don't think they are limited to one profession that fits with them exclusively.
For instance some races have maybe 1 or 2 professions that fit with them well, but perhaps one of those professions fits well with the 3 classes that fit well with another race.

The Asura are the Race most in tune with magical power though, and the most technologically advanced, they would make the best Elementalists theoretically speaking

This is true, they would be the best Elementalist (culturally speaking). They would also be tied for the best engineers, charr have also developed war machines (via the Iron Legion iirc) and so they know their engineering also.

Mesmers would be best for humans, seeing as their queen is one...

Oh don't get me wrong...that list is not exclusive, just what I would use if I wanted to play a specific Race or Profession. I didn't bother to list beyond my 'prime matchup'.

Also, had no idea about Asura: thought they were purely engineering oriented since it said about intelligence but I guess you have to be smart for teh majix.

They are more engineering based, but what is different with them is that its magic based, rather than the charr, who are mechanical based engineers...

I'm sure tomoro when I actually play the game it will change but i'm leaning toward asura purely for the massive WvWvWvWvWvWetc battles the smaller character model is always a massive help I haven't full read the racial abilities yet but the game has always been relatively balanced so i'm hoping it will just come down to picking the race that suits you rather than 'elementaltist must go X guardian must go X the racials are the best for that class'

Well the Asura aren't in the beta tests as of yet, though PCGamer just played as Asura in a press release, so fingers crossed they are on the way soon.

Also the racial abilities are balanced to be less powerful than any profession specific abilities you could equip. Most of the racials are Elite skill replacements, though most have one Utility skill replacement and the Humans have a Healing skill replacement too.
