Whilst trying to sort an external firewire drive out to backup my steam games ready for installing windows 7, I messed up royally and can no longer boot my windows drive. No Hammer No TF2

I have snow leopard and windows 7 in the post, so it seems a waste of time installing XP again....though i may do if i regain my composure. Pretty fecked off as you can imagine.

yep. it's arrived in the form of bootcamp 3 - unfortuantely you need Snow Leopard to run it - hence the purchase.

i'm in desperate need of windows reinstall, but my dvd drive decided to break down and have a crisis last time i reinstalled must have been 3-4 years ago, although since i got a new router/internet connection most of my problems have gone away, used to disconnect all the time and have to mess about with resetting router, was really annoying when it decided to do it while i was trying to have a game or watch something on iplayer, but my new router/internet seems alot more stable so far *touch wood* might just do a thorough virus scan and clean up excess files ive built up over the years and wait until i can afford a new mother board with dual/quad core support... that could be a while though

back on topic: i suspect after a few days without hammer youll come back and have a few ideas for new maps already

arrrrggggh. it seems my dvd drive has gone in my computer - ordered a new one - it won't read anything at all - and i can't use an external drive as boot camp requires the xp disc to be in the internal dvd drive

it's sooo annoying - I've barely used the drive - but i think thats half the problem - i suspect a dust issue as i went through a period where the drive was open for weeks without me noticing....it's hidden away.


close call though as i nearly fecked my macpro when i tried to install an internal year 2000 dvd burner :0 took alot of messing about to get it to boot again.

I share your pain Colt - I went home last night with the intention of backing up my home pc (it's been a while which usually means something will break soon) and guess what, I boot up the machine to see 'Drive D file record unreadable in sector xxxxx' scrolling up the screen for about an hour
Luckily, drive D is actually just a straight clone of my C drive so nothing lost - once it had corrected itself I just cloned my C drive onto it again and removed the drive so I have a backup once again.

Oh and guess what's is due to arrive in the next hour - my new toy....

speaking of windows screwing up, mine did yesterday xD after i said nice things about my pc i got a bsod then a corrupt system32 file or folder message, on top of that my dvd drive is now completely knackered and doesnt work at all, luckily i have a pc here that im supposed to be fixing, currently its sitting next to my pc with its guts hanging out with my ide and power cable stretching over to it, dvd rom hotwiring ftw!! i think i should reinstall before i have to give the other pc back, save myself buying a dvd drive for a while

luckily i was able to do a quick repair on the file that was corrupted but i think its a sign that i should get around to a fresh windows install

Anyway - DVD drive has arrived (w00t) as has Snow Leopard (just woke, installing soon).

lol im terrible for that, i never do a fresh install out of want because usually id rather be gaming, but inevitably it gets to the point where something breaks and i have to reinstall

but since i got a newer gfx card recently a fresh install of windows on top should make my computer much faster gonna leave it installing over night i think
