Having tried an early beta of the Chrome OS I'd far rather have that or even an Android based tablet than the iPad just so long as either has a USB socket.
I got Android 2.1 running on my HTC Diamond phone the other day (with a lot of help from King of The Potato People for those who remember him) and I'm quite a fan - it's as smooth as an iPhone but a little more geeky and lots more flexible. Having said that, the trade-off is that it doesn't always 'just work' unlike the iphone.
I expect big things from google hardware wise over the next 5 years.
Android, it has to be said, is very neatly designed.
Chrome OS - well, as long as it's got the characteristic google 'lightness' I reckon i'd be tempted.

You'd be surprised how many people about the place used to be GCHQ regs. Let's just say a change is not as good as a rest, it's better
