View Full Version : Engineer limit
Been playing alot again and really have noticed the number of enginers teams are having and im wondering, if its a viable option, is it worth putting in a limit on the enginers as its taking away from some of the fun we have on our servers

Current policy is warn using admin chat then kick. It's rather hard to get a team of 11 engies to change class though. Who changes? "I want to play engy so why does someone else get to and I don't?!" Who do you kick first?
I know it's always nice to assume people coming on the server are like us and wanting a decent game involving sportsmanship and teamplay but this simply isn't realistic during class updates. A sliding scale limit is the best policy imo. I am also especially disheartened to see regs playing engy when there are already too many on the team. They really should know better. I for one have only played engy on pubs when it's 3v3 amongst mates since it's not been appropriate to do so otherwise.
i do play engy alot its my 3rd most used class but since the update have been playing other classes but have requested at times to get no where and really stuggle to figure out who to kick which is why i sugested this so it becomes a more first come first servered instead of 8engys and 3 classes that struggle to play the game

If you guys decide to put a limit on a certain class then i think it would be fair to implement some sort of que system (like waiting for servers).
Ive played on other servers where engis were limited and its lots alot of its regs cause of this, yes my main is an engi and has been from day 1 and ive been waiting for this update for a long time but my second is a demo and ive had so much fun playing as a demo/soldier blowing buildings up.
I think just give it a few weeks and it will just go back to normal letting those reg engis players go back to playing the class properly, thing is its been like this every class update.

Generally the people who complain the loudest to start with - because they're complaining after admin has asked politely and that's a one-way ticket to bansville. Next I usually look to see who has just jumped on most recently and gone straight to engy without looking at what the class spread of their team is - those people are not playing for the team and can go elsewhere. Obviously also, regulars and subscribers get preference but then I would expect them to be fair and flexible and to set an example - having said that, if a reg is playing engy and has been playing as that class for a while then they have a right to keep playing.
I usually send two messages using the @@@ function in chat to ask to keep to max of 3 per class then just kick the lowest on the scoreboard. Don't get caught up in a discussion in-game - you're there to play and have fun, not argue with idiots - direct them to the forums if they come back and moan then ban them so you don't waste an evening dealing with whiners.
We have discussed class limits many times before and consensus is that they're only needed for a very short period of time around each major update and we can handle that manually with admins. the problem generally goes away within a fortnight

It's a temporary problem and therefore I don't think it's worth implementing.
The noticeable major detriment is that games are ending in sudden death a lot more due to the defensive strategies. Enjoy the engineer spam whilst it lasts, because after next week it will be no more.
Bad bad bad idea. A few of my friends play on a server which has this feature. It sucks so bad because in my opinion if people want to play engineer during an engineer update then they're entitled to.
There's usually admins on Playstuff anyway, so if it gets really out of hand then it can be solved. It's kind of died down now anyway!
ok wasn't sure i dont like kicking people even after warning them soo many times but wanted to get other peoples views on other ways of fixing this annoying problem.
We've got this problem on the server right now actually.
(ALL) MacNetron: as I said, 4 engies are enough *sigh*

The only problem was that I needed to ask twice and kick somebody. After that it was fine again, even after map change.
Even opposite of problem. By showing that we actively look after our server, means the teamplay oriented players will be happy and come back.
As grom already said, as long as the Server Assistants keep an eye out, we don't really need a class limit.
